What criteria does the selection committee use to determine winners?

In the spring, an impartial selection committee composed of educational professionals meet to select the winners.  In evaluating the applicants, the committee considers:

  • Academic records
  • ACT/SAT scores
  • Student employment
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Community activities
  • Honors, Awards, and Special Recognition

Winners are chosen primarily on academic merit.  There are several "Best All-Round Student" scholarships available.

The scholarship application allows you to input up to five (5) activities in each area listed above. To received maximum points on your application fully complete each section.

What is the mailing address to send all required information?

High School Applicants: All required documents must be uploaded to your online application.

College Applicants: Transcripts must be emailed to Jennifer Kemp, jkemp@tngrocer.org.

How do I find out if all required documentation is received?

Click this link, https://app.smarterselect.com/login, and log into your application to view which documentation has been received. The Smarter Select system sends automatic emails when requested information is uploaded to your application.

Do I need to submit an application for each scholarship?

No only create and submit one application.

What do I do if I need to add information to my application after it is submitted?

You may login to your online application,  https://app.smarterselect.com/login, and make the necessary changes until your application is submitted.

After your application is submitted, contact Jennifer Kemp by email, jkemp@tngrocer.org, include your full name and changes that need to be made to the application. All changes must be submitted in writing.

Why do I need my parent's social security number on my application?

Your parent's information is necessary if your parent is the employee of the member company.  This information is used to verify employment.

Can transcripts be faxed or emailed?

High School Applicants: Transcripts must be uploaded to the application. Requests are submitted electronically through your online application. You may login to your application, https://app.smarterselect.com/login, and resend any requests.

College Applicants: Transcripts must be emailed from your college or university to Jennifer Kemp, jkemp@tngrocer.org.

I am in college do I still need to send a copy of my ACT / SAT scores?

Yes, ACT / SAT scores are needed for all applicants regardless of the year in college.

Are all scholarship applicants notified after the selections?

Yes, Everyone will be informed by April 28, 2017.

All applicants will be notified of the results by e-mail.

Winning applicants will receive a packet of information by email.  If you have a change of email address, notify Jennifer Kemp by email, jkemp@tngrocer.org.
